Dr. Grady S. D. E. Culpepper serves as Professor of History and Dean of the Division of Social Sciences at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. He earned his B.A. in History Education from Morris Brown College, M.A. in United States and African American History from Atlanta University, M.A.T.S. in Church History and Leadership Ethics from Columbia Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. in American Studies from Emory University. Throughout his career at the institution, Culpepper has held significant administrative roles, including Interim Chairperson of the Division of Social Sciences. He has contributed to faculty development through presentations such as 'Balancing Classroom and Administrative Obligations' in the Brown Bag Lunch Series. His academic journey reflects a commitment to historical scholarship and leadership within higher education.
In the classroom, Professor Culpepper teaches United States History I (to 1865), United States History II (since 1865), and African American History. His research interests focus on the influence of Christian faith-based communities on historical and contemporary sociocultural change in the United States, as well as African American community-building and empowerment. These areas align with his extensive preparation in history and related interdisciplinary fields.
