About Graeme

Graeme Miller is an Associate Professor of General Practice in the Sydney School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health, at the University of Sydney. He earned his MB BS from the University of Sydney in 1963, FRACGP in 1972, and PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 2002. A Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Miller practiced as a principal in a large group general practice in Sydney for over 20 years and served as Director of the Department of General Practice at Westmead Hospital. His leadership roles include membership on the RACGP Council for over 10 years, with terms as Chairman of Council and Honorary Secretary, as well as Director of Standards Development for the College for two years. Internationally, he serves on the Wonca International Classification Committee, chairing its Terminology and EHR Structure Working Group.

Since 2005, Miller has been Medical Director of the Family Medicine Research Centre (FMRC) at the University of Sydney and Co-Chief Investigator of the BEACH program, a continuous national cross-sectional survey of general practice activity in Australia initiated in 1998. This program provides the only ongoing nationally representative data on GP consultations, linking management actions to patient problems and informing primary care trends, morbidity patterns, and healthcare delivery. His research has produced over 170 publications, garnering more than 7,500 citations, with key contributions including annual BEACH-derived reports such as 'General practice activity in Australia' analyzing consultation rates, chronic conditions, and interventions. Miller's work on family practice epidemiology, terminology, classification, and quality of care has profoundly influenced Australian general practice policy and evidence-based practice. Currently holding the position of Honorary Associate Professor, his longstanding contributions continue to shape primary healthcare research.
