A role model for academic excellence.
Greg Lewis holds a Master of Bioethics and Health Law from the University of Otago, Wellington. Prior to this postgraduate qualification, he completed degrees in both law and science. He has described bioethics as a natural progression from his earlier studies, enabling him to apply legal reasoning and scientific knowledge to approach new and complicated situations through frameworks of jurisprudence and ethics.
Upon graduation, Greg Lewis joined the Ministry of Health's legal team for nearly three years, where he worked on issues including xenotransplantation, legislation governing assisted reproduction treatments, germ cell line genetic modification, and regulatory legal advice related to SARS. He later transitioned to the role of Foreign Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, utilising the research, analytical, and writing skills acquired during his academic training. Advancing in his diplomatic career, he has served at New Zealand embassies in Riyadh and Cairo before his appointment as New Zealand's Ambassador to Egypt. Greg Lewis speaks Arabic.
