Dr. Guoyang Fu is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University. He completed his PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Western Australia in 2015. Prior to joining Southern Cross University, he gained extensive research experience at Monash University, RMIT University, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. These appointments honed his expertise in computational methods and structural analysis, preparing him for his current role where he contributes to both research and teaching in engineering.
Dr. Fu's research specializations include computational mechanics, life-cycle analysis of deteriorated infrastructure, and failure prediction of deteriorated water pipelines, integrating computational modelling, fracture mechanics, and structural reliability. He also evaluates spray and cured-in-place-pipe liners for pipe rehabilitations. His interests extend to structural and infrastructure rehabilitation, structural reliability, critical resilient infrastructure, and climate change effects on amphibious housing. As a member of the university's Catchments, Coasts and Communities and ZeroWaste research clusters, his work supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Fu has authored over 50 journal and conference papers and several industry reports. Notable publications include 'Failure assessment of reinforced rock slopes subjected to bolt corrosion considering correlated multiple failure modes' (2021), 'Prediction of Time to Corrosion-Induced Concrete Cracking Using Mesoscale Modelling Approach' (2019), 'A comparison between the NMM and the XFEM in discontinuity modeling' (2012), and 'Structural Behaviour of Strengthened Timber Beams With Basalt Fibre Reinforced Polymer Sheets' (2026). He serves as course coordinator for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Business programs and participates in initiatives on GenAI in learning, teaching, and assessment.
