Guy Vingerhoets is a senior full professor in the Department of Experimental Clinical and Health Psychology within the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at Ghent University, where he heads the Neuropsychology Lab. A clinical psychologist who graduated from Ghent University in 1985, he trained as a clinical neuropsychologist at Ghent University Hospital. He earned his PhD in Psychology in 1995, focusing on the cognitive consequences of open-heart surgery. During the 1990s, Vingerhoets became involved in neuroimaging techniques such as functional MRI and functional transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. In 2001, he was appointed assistant professor of neuropsychology at Ghent University's Faculty of Medicine, contributing to neuropsychological assessments and clinical research on neurological disorders including epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke, as well as cognitive effects of cardiac and vascular interventions. In 2011, he was appointed full professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, with research centered on the functional neuroanatomy of language and praxis, and brain asymmetry and its behavioral implications in healthy individuals and clinical or atypical populations.
His research interests include neuropsychology, neuroimaging, behavioural neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, developmental neuroscience, neuroanatomy, neurological and neuromuscular diseases, neurophysiology, and neurosciences. Vingerhoets has served on the boards of the International Neuropsychological Society and the Federation of European Societies of Neuropsychology.
