Hamad Ghazle is Professor and Department Head of Clinical Health Professions in the College of Health Sciences and Technology at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he also directs the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. A graduate of RIT with a BS in ultrasound in 1988, he earned MS and Ed.D. degrees from the University of Rochester and holds RDMS and RVT certifications. With over 25 years in clinical and academic sonography, Ghazle joined RIT in 1994 to lead the program, which originated in the College of Science before moving to Health Sciences and Technology. Under his guidance, the curriculum has expanded to cover additional specialties, with increased student enrollment, clinical affiliations, workshops, and conferences. Much of the program's ultrasound equipment comes from industry donations, and many adjunct faculty and guest speakers are program alumni. Ghazle continues clinical practice as a sonographer.
Ghazle has shaped the sonography field through extensive leadership, serving as President of the Rochester Ultrasound Society, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound Technology & Education, and on the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Board of Directors, Government Relations Committee, Educators and Continuing Medical Education Review Committee, and as Western Upstate NY Representative. He contributed to the SDMS-AAOS Writing Panel on Pediatric Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip in Infants and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. In 2026, he was elected Secretary of the Sonography Community of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. His honors include the 2014 SDMS Distinguished Educator Award, 2002 RIT Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching, 2018 Edwina Award for Diversity and Inclusion, 2017 RIT Excellence in Student Life Mentor Award, and inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who in America (2009) and as one of the 25 Top Professors of Sonography. Ghazle has delivered keynote addresses at RIT convocations and numerous national and international presentations on sonographic evaluation of acute abdomen, pelvic masses, pediatric conditions, Doppler waveforms, and ultrasound-guided procedures. Key publications include “Epidermoid Cyst of the Testis: Sonographic Characteristic Appearance” (Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 2019, co-authored with Tracy Apeland) and “Congenital Intrahepatic Portosystemic Venous Shunt With an Associated Aneurysm” (2017).
