Dr. Hancy Issac serves as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, with a focus on nursing. She holds a Master of Nursing (MN) from the University of Auckland and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Southern Queensland. An experienced academic lecturer and trained nurse practitioner, Dr. Issac has substantial expertise in clinical education, research, and academic leadership gained in New Zealand and Australia. She contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education, teaching subjects such as acute clinical care, advanced pharmacology, evidence-based practice, and advanced diagnostics. Dr. Issac has played a key role in developing innovative nurse practitioner programs and currently acts as Academic Integrity Lead, tackling issues related to AI and academic assessments. Additionally, she researches remote and hybrid assessment methods to support rural and remote students and mentors early-career researchers and postgraduate students.
Dr. Issac's research specializes in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) management integrated into emergency department care pathways, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, guideline adherence, and enhanced patient outcomes in Australian healthcare settings. Her PhD work has spurred independent COPD research initiatives, where she leads teams in grant applications and outputs, securing funding as primary investigator and associate totaling $0.5 million since 2018. She is a Fellow of the International College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (FCENA) and the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and serves as a peer reviewer for prominent journals including the International Journal of COPD, Journal of Advanced Nursing, BMC Health Services Research, and British Medical Journal. Notable publications encompass "Exploring factors contributing to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) guideline non-adherence and potential solutions in the emergency department: interdisciplinary perspective" (2021, Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare), "Mapping of modifiable factors with interdisciplinary Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) guidelines adherence to the theoretical domains framework: a systematic review" (2022), and "Associated factors, assessment, management, and outcomes of patients who present to the emergency department for acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a scoping review" (2022, Respiratory Medicine).
