About Hao

Hao Yan is Regents Professor and Milton D. Glick Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Arizona State University, where he also serves as Director of the Biodesign Center for Molecular Design and Biomimetics. He joined the ASU faculty in 2004 after completing a B.S. in chemistry from Shandong University in 1993 and a Ph.D. from New York University in 2001, followed by research at Duke University. Yan is recognized for his pioneering contributions to structural DNA nanotechnology, with research focused on achieving atomic-level precision in structural design through DNA crystal engineering, developing complex architectures using DNA and RNA origami, and expanding functional capabilities in nucleic acid nanotechnology.

Yan has authored over 240 scientific publications and holds more than 50 patents. He has co-founded two biotechnology companies. His honors include election as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the National Academy of Inventors, the European Academy of Sciences, and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Additional recognitions include the Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology, the Rozenberg Tulip Award in DNA Computing, the Humboldt Research Award, and the Sloan Research Fellowship. In 2024, he was elected to the European Academy of Sciences.
