About Harold

Harold Gouzoules is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at Emory University. He received his B.Sc. in Animal Behavior from McGill University in 1970, followed by a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1973 and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980. After completing his doctorate, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in Peter Marler's laboratory at Rockefeller University from 1980 to 1983. Gouzoules joined the Emory University faculty in the fall of 1984, where he has conducted extensive research in animal behavior.

His academic interests center on primate social behavior and communication, primate vocal communication, recruitment of support in agonistic interactions, and the evolution and ethology of screams in human and nonhuman primates.
