Ian Clark Sinapuelas, Ph.D., serves as Department Chair and Professor in the Marketing Department within the Lam Family College of Business at San Francisco State University, contributing to the field of Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing (2007), an M.S. in Economics (2000), both from Purdue University, and a B.S. in Mathematics (1995) from Ateneo de Manila University. Joining San Francisco State University in 2007, he progressed from Assistant Professor to full Professor and Department Chair, while also acting as Undergraduate Advisor and Associate Director of Research Programs for the Responsible Innovation and Entrepreneurship (RI&E) Research Initiative. His research spans feature innovation and imitation in the consumer-packaged goods industry, private label and retailing strategies, the role of social media in health care marketing and product development, and responsible innovation and entrepreneurship. Professor Sinapuelas has published in prestigious journals including the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product and Brand Management, Journal of Consumer Marketing, and Marketing Letters. Notable publications include "Entry for supermarket feature me-too brands: An empirical explanation of incidence and timing" (Marketing Letters, 2009, with William Robinson).
In addition to his scholarly contributions, he teaches core courses such as Marketing Strategy and Marketing Management at the undergraduate, MBA, and Executive MBA levels, as well as Sales Promotion and Retailing at the undergraduate level. He previously taught MBA-level marketing management at the German International Graduate School of Management and Administration in Hanover, Germany. Professor Sinapuelas serves as a guest editor for a special issue on responsible innovation in the Journal of Product Innovation Management and co-organizes the annual Responsible Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference at San Francisco State University, fostering dialogue on ethical business practices and innovation.
