Ibuki Nishida is the International Students' Representative for the Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) at the University of Otago, a position he has held for two years as of 2025. In this capacity, he addresses issues pertinent to international students, organizes key events including the International Food Fest, International Welcome, and Expo, and contributes to university committees such as the Summer School Operational Group and Distance Learning Advisory Committee until December 2025. He regularly submits quarterly reports outlining his advocacy efforts and initiatives.
Currently in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE), Nishida previously completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, earning commendation from the Department of Economics. In 2025, he was awarded the prize for ECON 318 Behavioural Economics. Earlier, as a second-year Bachelor of Arts and Science student, he served as Social Impact Lead in the University of Otago's Social Impact Studio, supporting the GC Café event series on Global Citizenship topics with speaker sessions and discussions. He has also been Co-President of the Otago International Students' Association (OISA).
Originally from Japan, having resided in the United States prior to New Zealand, Nishida chose the University of Otago for its student-centered environment in Dunedin, where navigation on foot is convenient. He received the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship for International Students worth $10,000. Nishida represented international students at the NZIEC KI TUA conference, challenging the sector on student experiences. His priorities include advancing the lecture recordings policy and expanding International Food Fests to twice yearly. Known as "Buki," he is committed to enhancing communication and creating casual events for international students while giving back to the supportive university community.
