Dr Jacinta Oldehaver is Associate Head of School: Pacific in the Faculty of Arts and Education, Education and Social Practice at the University of Auckland. She holds a PhD awarded in 2022. Of Tongan/Samoan/German descent, she brings over 15 years of experience as a classroom teacher in the primary sector, where she held middle leadership positions. She is an experienced and accredited literacy facilitator who has led, designed, and delivered professional learning and development for teachers.
Her research focuses on education, with particular interests in Talanoa, primary education, literacy, and dialogic pedagogy. She has examined dialogic approaches to support Pasifika students and deepen student thinking and learning, as well as teacher-family partnerships and critical policy analysis of Pacific education policy from 2009 to 2030. Her work appears in academic publications, and she maintains a Google Scholar profile with citations reflecting impact in the field. Dr Oldehaver contributes to teaching, supervision, and initiatives addressing equity in education for Māori and Pasifika communities.
