Kenneth Husted is Professor of Innovation and Research Management at the University of Auckland Business School. He holds a PhD from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. Since 2018, he has served as Head of the Department of Management and International Business, and he also heads the Departments of Marketing and Information Systems and Operations Management.
His research specializations include innovation—covering R&D collaboration, science and innovation policy, and innovation in low- and medium-tech industries—and knowledge management, focusing on knowledge sharing and governance. He examines intersections such as knowledge sharing in open source software development and R&D alliances. Husted has published in top journals including Journal of Management Studies, California Management Review, Technovation, Journal of World Business, Organisational Dynamics, International Journal of Technology Management, Journal of Knowledge Management, and Creativity and Innovation Management. Key publications feature "Governing knowledge sharing in organizations: Levels of analysis, governance mechanisms, and research directions" (2010, over 1100 citations), "Diagnosing and fighting knowledge-sharing hostility" (2002, nearly 900 citations), "Knowledge sharing, knowledge leaking and relative innovation performance: An empirical study" (2015, over 800 citations), "Knowledge-sharing hostility in Russian firms" (2003), and "Second generation science parks: from structural holes jockeys to social capital catalysts of the knowledge society" (2005). He co-edited the book "Management perspectives on the COVID-19 crisis: Lessons from New Zealand" (Edward Elgar, 2021). Husted serves as Regional Editor for Journal of Knowledge Management and Associate Editor for Technology Innovation Management Review. He has consulted and delivered executive training for companies and public institutions in multiple European countries, contributing to practical applications in innovation and knowledge governance.
