James Carpenter is an Associate Lecturer at Curtin Law School in the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. He holds the qualifications LLB, LLB (Hons), GDLP, and BA (Screen Arts). In his teaching role on the Curtin Perth campus under the Office of the Provost portfolio, he has delivered instruction across a range of units, including Tort Law, Advanced Tort Law, business regulation units, and intellectual property law. He serves as a tutor for LAWS1003 Advanced Tort Law and engages with law students through various academic activities.
As a part-time PhD candidate at Curtin University, James Carpenter's research focuses on liability and regulatory frameworks, particularly examining the legal challenges posed by autonomously-driven vehicles causing injuries. He presented on this topic at a public law seminar titled 'What Happens when Autonomously-Driven Vehicles Cause Injuries? The Implementation of Liability and Regulatory Frameworks' in May 2022. Additionally, he co-authored the conference paper 'Worker Oversight on Corporate Boards: Codetermination as a Method to Mitigate the Risks of Director Self-dealing,' presented at the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Conference hosted by Curtin University on 13 March 2020, with Robert Cunningham and Martin Allcock.
