James Stekelberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Deloitte Faculty Fellow at the Colorado State University College of Business. He holds a PhD in accounting and a Master of Business Taxation from the University of Southern California and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. Prior to his appointment at Colorado State University, Stekelberg served as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Arizona. At Colorado State University, he coordinates for-credit internships in the Accounting Department, advises undergraduate honors theses, and represents the College of Business on the Faculty Council.
Stekelberg's research specializes in tax accounting, with publications addressing tax authority monitoring, corporate tax avoidance, tax risk management, auditor responses to tax strategies, state tax policies, and tax incentives' effects on consumer decisions. His work appears in top-tier journals including the Journal of the American Taxation Association, Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, Public Budgeting & Finance, and Energy Policy.
