Jamie Ryan is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery and Critical Care at the University of Otago, with a focus on Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. He obtained his MB ChB from the University of Otago in 1994 and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Otolaryngology in 2003. He is also Board Certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the International Board for Certification in Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Ryan underwent advanced surgical training in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin, followed by an 18-month fellowship in Dundee, Scotland. As a consultant Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck Surgeon, he practices at Dunedin Hospital, Fernbrae House, and Mercy Hospital in Dunedin. He is actively engaged in teaching undergraduate medical students and training surgical trainees at the University of Otago.
His clinical expertise includes nasal and endoscopic sinus surgery, management of head and neck cancers, thyroid surgery, voice disorders, facial plastic surgery, skin cancer excision and reconstruction, and cosmetic treatments such as Botox and Restylane. Ryan holds memberships in the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Australasian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, and the Australia and New Zealand Rhinologic Society.
