About Jan

Prof. Dr. Jan Erhorn serves as W3-Professor of Sport Science with a focus on Sport Education and Sport Didactics in the Sport Science faculty at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg since April 2024. Previously, from April 2017 to March 2024, he was W3-Professor of Sport Pedagogy and Sport Didactics at the University of Osnabrück, where he also managed the Institute for Sport and Movement Sciences (2018–2024) and chaired the Examination Board (2018–2022). Earlier positions include Junior Professor with Tenure Track for Sport Pedagogy and Sport Didactics at Europa-Universität Flensburg (2013–2017, positive evaluation 2015), substitute professor at Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel (2015–2016), and research assistant roles at Universität Hamburg (2007–2013) in projects on school fitness, language-movement centers, and movement/play/sport. He obtained his Dr. phil. from Universität Hamburg in December 2010, researching movement practices of primary school children via pedagogical ethnography, and his First State Teaching Examination in Sport and History in May 2006 from the same university.

Erhorn's academic interests center on empirical instructional research, teacher professionalization, movement, play, and sport in early childhood, professionalization of early education professionals, inclusion and heterogeneity management, and urban movement practices of children and youth. Notable publications include monographs Bewegung und Gesundheit in der Kita: Analysen und Konzepte für die Praxis (2016, co-authored with J. Schwier and P. Hampel) and Dem 'Bewegungsmangel' auf der Spur: Zu den schulischen und außerschulischen Bewegungspraxen von Grundschulkindern (2012); edited volumes like Bewegung – Spielraum für Bildung (2020, with J. Schwier and B. Brandes); and recent articles such as "Qualification of Prospective PE Teachers for Inclusive Physical Education" (2023, Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy), "Effects of a School Internship on Situation-Specific Skills for an Inclusive PE" (2025, Education Sciences), and works on video-based assessments for inclusive PE teaching competencies. Additionally, he contributed to boards including the scientific advisory board of ZeBUSS at Europa-Universität Flensburg (since 2017) and nifbe (2018–2023).
