Jane Marriner serves as Administrator within the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Medicine and the Department of Surgery and Critical Care at the University of Otago, Christchurch, in the Division of Health Sciences. She possesses an extensive background in university administration, having joined in 1973 as a foundation staff member in the Department of the Dean at the University of Otago, Christchurch. Subsequently, she worked in administrative roles with the academic Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the academic Department of Population Health, and the Māori/Indigenous Health Institute. Additionally, she held administrative positions at Lincoln University.
In her current capacity, Jane Marriner coordinates the Orthopaedics and Advanced Surgery module for fifth-year medical students and the Orthopaedic component of the Surgery module for sixth-year medical students. She arranges timetables for trainee interns, emailing them just prior to the first day of attachment, with these sessions taking precedence. She is associated as administrator for modules including Surgery 5, Orthopaedics & Advanced Surgery, Cardio/Respiratory (CR) + Cardio, and others in the medical curriculum. Her support for teaching and student services earned her the Best Support Staff award from the Christchurch Medical Students' Association in 2019, based on votes by 2018 fifth-year medical students, presented alongside Professor Gary Hooper from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Medicine.
