Associate Professor Janet Schloss is a Clinical Research Fellow and Lecturer at the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine within the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University. She holds a PhD from the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland and has a professional background as a naturopath and clinical nutritionist with over 20 years in private practice. Her career includes extensive experience conducting clinical trials at institutions such as the University of Queensland, Mater Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, and as Clinical Trials Manager at the Office of Research, Endeavour College of Natural Health, before joining Southern Cross University. Dr Schloss has supervised PhD candidates, honours students, and taught naturopathy, nutrition, and medical students since 2004. She is a member of SCU's Harvest to Health Research Cluster and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through her work.
Dr Schloss has ten years of research experience, specializing in integrative, complementary, and traditional medicine, with a focus on clinical trials, herbal medicine, cancer nutrition and naturopathy, chronic diseases, systematic literature reviews, and medicinal cannabis. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, including studies on B-vitamins for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy published in Supportive Care in Cancer (2017) and medicinal cannabis tolerability in high-grade gliomas in Frontiers in Oncology (2021). Her groundbreaking research on naturopathy, cancer supportive care, and auto-immune diseases has garnered national media attention, such as the Today Show feature on her glioblastoma trial. Awards include the NHAA Young Researcher Award at the 11th Herbal and Naturopathic International Conference (2019) and the BIMA Researcher of the Year (2017). Dr Schloss regularly presents at conferences worldwide, speaks at cancer support programs since 2004 including Kim Walters Choice Program and Queensland Cancer Council groups, conducts workshops on cancer, chronic disease, immune function, and aging in Australia and the USA, and serves as an associate editor for two journals. Her work supports evidence-based practices for patients and practitioners in complementary medicine.
