Janine Thompson is a Lecturer in Nursing at Griffith University's School of Nursing and Midwifery, part of Griffith Health, based at the Gold Coast Campus in Clinical Sciences 2 (G16), Room 2.45. As a qualified Registered Nurse, she brings extensive clinical expertise in general and surgical nursing to her academic role. Before joining Griffith University, Ms. Thompson worked as a Nurse Educator in acute care hospitals in Sydney, where she contributed to staff development and clinical training in high-pressure environments. She has also undertaken postgraduate professional development as a Teaching Fellow with the Higher Education Academy (HEA) through Griffith University's Learning and Teaching services in Brisbane, enhancing her capabilities in higher education pedagogy.
In her teaching portfolio, Ms. Thompson serves as convenor for several foundational undergraduate nursing courses essential to the Bachelor of Nursing program. These include Communicating Effectively (1806NRS), which equips students with knowledge of communication models and explores interpersonal, cultural, and environmental factors that facilitate or impede effective patient interactions in healthcare settings. She also leads Health Assessment (1810NRS), emphasizing comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessment techniques for clinical practice, offered on the Logan Campus. Additionally, she convenes Psychosocial Development across the Lifespan (1804NRS) on the Gold Coast Campus, covering developmental theories and stages from infancy to old age relevant to nursing care. Beyond teaching, Ms. Thompson engages in university service, representing the School of Nursing and Midwifery on the Griffith Health Group Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) Committee, contributing to discussions on workplace safety and health initiatives as documented in multiple committee minutes from 2023 and 2024. Her research presence is documented on the Griffith Experts platform and ResearchGate, featuring one key publication titled 'Anesthetic Management of a Pregnant Patient with Scleroderma,' which has received 44 citations, reflecting her interest in specialized clinical case management.
