Dr. Jeanean Boyd is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Undergraduate Nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington's College of Nursing and Health Innovation, specializing in Health Science. She previously served as Chair for Undergraduate Nursing and continues as part-time faculty teaching RN to BSN courses. Dr. Boyd joined the UTA faculty in 2003. From 2005 to 2007, she acted as Dean of Health Sciences and founding Director of the Associate Degree Nursing program. Her career reflects extensive leadership in nursing education, including oversight of undergraduate nursing policies such as core performance standards, codes of ethics, and comprehensive assessment procedures, which she approved in her role as department chair. Trained initially as a nurse at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in 1970, Dr. Boyd has contributed significantly to the evolution of nursing programs at UTA, particularly in supporting online and distance education initiatives.
Dr. Boyd earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Texas Christian University in 2017, with majors in Nursing Education and Nursing Administration; she also holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and is a Registered Nurse (RN). Her research interests include nursing education, nursing leadership, nursing management, nursing administration, quality improvement, and professional autonomy. Key publications co-authored by Dr. Boyd are 'Predictors of Student Veterans Progression and Graduation in Veteran to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (VBSN) Programs: A Multisite Study' (2021) and 'Online Course Engagement Among Undergraduate Nursing Student Veterans' (2018), which have collectively received 14 citations. These works focus on factors affecting veteran students' success and engagement in online nursing courses. In 2015, she received the President's Award for Excellence in Distance Education Teaching from the Undergraduate Nursing department, recognizing her impact on innovative teaching methods. Dr. Boyd's efforts have supported UTA's programs for veteran nurses, contributing to the College of Nursing and Health Innovation's top honors in online advanced nursing education and its recognition for serving veterans.
