Jeffrey Jackson is a Professor of Philosophy in the Department of History, Humanities, and Languages at the University of Houston-Downtown. He holds a Ph.D. and has served in prominent leadership positions within the institution, including as Chair of the Department of History, Humanities, and Languages and Chair of the Department of Social Sciences. Jackson also serves as the Fulbright Program Advisor, supporting UHD students in their applications to the Fulbright Student Program. Jackson's research engages with philosophy, particularly the works of Nietzsche in relation to psychoanalysis and social theory. His publications include 'Nietzsche and Suffered Social Histories,' published in The Journal of Nietzsche Studies (2020), which examines Nietzsche's interpretations of social histories characterized by suffering. In 'Sociality and Magical Language: Nietzsche and Psychoanalysis,' appearing in Language and Psychoanalysis (2019), he explores connections between Nietzschean thought and psychoanalytic concepts of sociality and language. Another key work is 'Cosmopolitanism and Working-through the Past' in Theory, Culture & Society (2012), addressing cosmopolitan responses to historical pasts. He has presented scholarly papers, such as 'The Other or the Object? "Primacy" in Levinas and Adorno' at the American Philosophical Association Central Division. Jackson participates in faculty governance as a member of the Faculty Senate and supports Open Educational Resources initiatives, including for PHIL 3330.
