Jennifer Adams, MD, FACP, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus School of Medicine. She holds the position of Associate Dean of Medical Education for the Clerkship Phase, where she oversees clinical curriculum development and implementation within the innovative Trek Curriculum. Adams practices as a primary care physician at Denver Health, where she has worked for over a decade. In 2014, she established the Denver Health Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (DH-LIC) program as a pilot initiative following interest from curriculum leadership. This effort expanded significantly, leading to the CU School of Medicine adopting longitudinal integrated clerkships (LICs) as the standard model for all third-year students starting in 2021, making it the first U.S. medical school to do so fully. Her leadership has transformed clinical training by emphasizing continuity of care, patient relationships, and immersive learning experiences that better prepare students for residency.
Adams' scholarly work focuses on medical education, including LICs, student assessment, preceptor feedback, curriculum design, and clinical teaching practices. She has published extensively in leading journals such as Academic Medicine, Teaching and Learning in Medicine, and Clinical Teacher. Key publications include "Characterization of Distinctive Teaching Practices in Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships: Perspectives From Students and Faculty" (Teach Learn Med, 2025), "Preliminary Workforce Outcomes of an Urban Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship" (Acad Med, 2023), "Designing a Shortened Preclinical Basic Science Curriculum: Expert-Derived Recommendations" (Acad Med, 2023), "Secondary Traumatic Stress in Medical Students During Clinical Clerkships" (Acad Med, 2025), and "Psychometric Analysis of an Adapted Patient Care Ownership Scale for Medical Students" (Perspect Med Educ, 2025). She presented Grand Rounds on "Longitudinal Integrated Clerkships: Reform & Reward" at the Department of Medicine in 2022. Adams' contributions have advanced undergraduate medical education nationally, promoting equity-centered curricula, innovative assessment strategies, and evidence-based reforms that enhance student outcomes and clinical readiness.
