About Jennifer

Jennifer Sullivan is a Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and has served as Dean of the Graduate School since 2021. She earned a BS in Biology from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1996, followed by an MS and PhD in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from Albany Medical College in 2000, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiovascular Biology and Physiology at the Medical College of Georgia. Her academic appointments at Augusta University and its predecessor institutions include progression from Instructor and Assistant Research Scientist roles in Pharmacology and Toxicology starting in 2003, to Assistant Professor in the Vascular Biology Center in 2008, and subsequent promotions to Associate Professor and Professor in Physiology and Medicine departments through 2018.

Dr. Sullivan’s laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms regulating blood pressure and renal function in males and females under physiological and pathophysiological conditions, with a focus on sex differences in hypertension, immune cell activation, recovery from acute kidney injury, and related cardiovascular and renal disease risks in females. She has received numerous awards, including the 2024 Outstanding Faculty Award from Augusta University, the 2023 MCG Group on Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Award, the 2023 Ernest Starling Lectureship Award from the American Physiological Society, and the 2021 AURI Distinguished Research Award. Key publications include works on sex differences in hypertension published in Hypertension in 2016 and studies on renal regulatory T cells in spontaneously hypertensive rats published in 2014. She has held editorial roles, such as Associate Editor for the American Journal of Physiology: Renal Physiology, and serves on committees for the American Physiological Society and American Heart Association.
