Always supportive and understanding.
Jeremy Bone is an English Teacher at the University of Otago Pathway and English Language Centre, contributing to pre-university Academic English programmes and English language courses for diverse international and domestic students. He has been teaching since 2002, with experience in New Zealand and abroad instructing General English, IELTS and TOEIC preparation, English for International Communication, and Academic English tailored for university pathways at Otago. His role supports the Centre's offerings, including Foundation Studies Certificates, fast-track diplomas equivalent to second-year bachelor's credits, and English programmes at all proficiency levels.
Bone holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Film and Media Studies and TESOL, complemented by an RSA Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults. He completed a 400-level dissertation in the Media, Film and Communication programme at the University of Otago in 2013. Bone shares practical insights from his teaching through professional writing. In the TESOLANZ Newsletter (Volume 32, Issue 2, Winter 2019), he published 'Using Authentic Material: International Women’s Day,' detailing a lesson for a multicultural class of Māori, Pasifika, Pākehā, Chinese, Kuwaiti, Korean, and Singaporean students. The session featured an E-Tangata video on Selina Tusitala Marsh, New Zealand Poet Laureate and Associate Professor at the University of Auckland; Bone supplied pre-viewing context, led discussions on perspectives, and assigned reflective writing on the video and a related article by Tapu Misa. This exemplifies his method of integrating real-world materials to build classroom relationships and enhance learning.
