Jill Hubbard serves as the Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Practice in the Computer Science program at Oregon State University-Cascades. With a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Boston University and a Master of Education from Portland State University, she brings substantial experience from industry and education. Her early career involved designing and developing flight simulator subsystems for Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation and video conferencing application-specific integrated circuits for Intel Corporation. Transitioning to education, Hubbard designed and implemented high school computer science and engineering pathways and served as an adjunct instructor for Portland State University’s Challenge Program.
Since joining Oregon State University-Cascades in 2018, Hubbard has focused on providing accessible, inclusive, hands-on computer science learning opportunities. She is co-principal investigator on the National Science Foundation grant "CS for Oregon," collaborating with Portland State University and the University of Oregon to prepare in-service and pre-service teachers, address problems of practice, and sustain inclusive computer science education in Oregon high schools. Additional funding includes a $628,000 award from the Oregon Department of Education to increase K-12 computer science participation and a $153,604 grant from Portland State University for teacher training. Hubbard holds the Seven Peaks Ventures Faculty Scholar in Computer Science Innovation position and serves as president of the Oregon Computer Science Teachers Association. Her professional development efforts have trained 52 teachers on the equity-oriented Exploring Computer Science curriculum, reaching 40 diverse schools. She co-authored "Computer Science for Equity: Teacher Education, Agency, and Statewide Reform" (Frontiers in Education, 2020) and has provided testimony to the Oregon Senate Committee on Education regarding computer science policy.
