Jim Martin holds the Henrietta and G.W. Snyder Jr. Professorship in Business and serves as Senior Lecturer in the Brenneman School of Business at Washburn University. A Washburn alumnus, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the university in 1979 and a Master of Professional Accountancy, with a focus on taxation, from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983. Martin is a Certified Public Accountant with extensive professional experience, including his tenure as Senior Vice-President at Westar Energy Inc., from which he retired before returning to academia. Martin's research specializations and academic interests include mergers and acquisitions, accounting and capital markets, ethical conflicts in accounting, federal tax policy, and regulation of public utilities. He teaches courses such as Intermediate Financial Accounting I, Internship in Accounting, and Business Finance. His commitment to excellence has earned him the Dicus Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006 and 2007, the Student Life Achieving Excellence Award in 2010, and the Washburn/Kaw Valley Bank Excellence in Research Award.
