Dr Joanna C. Moullin, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Curtin School of Population Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. Holding a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Curtin University obtained in 2006 and a PhD from the University of Technology Sydney in 2015 focused on implementation science applied to community pharmacy, she transitioned from pharmacy practice to research following opportunities in Europe. Her postdoctoral work was conducted at the University of California San Diego, Department of Psychiatry, from 2016 to 2017. Since joining Curtin University in 2017 as a lecturer, she has progressed to Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the enAble Institute, leading the Implementation Science program. A pharmacist by profession, her career emphasizes bridging evidence-based practices into clinical settings across mental health, substance use, and pharmacy.
Moullin's research centers on implementation science, developing tools and frameworks such as the Generic Implementation Framework (GIF), Framework for the Implementation of Services in Pharmacy (FISpH), and Measure of Innovation-Specific Implementation Intentions (MISII) using Rasch measurement theory. Current projects include medication means restriction interventions for suicide prevention and Take-Home Naloxone implementation for harm reduction, involving consumer and community participation. She has authored over 70 publications, including highly cited papers like 'Ten recommendations for using implementation frameworks in research and practice' (2020, Implementation Science), 'Systematic review of the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS) framework' (2019), 'The Role of Leadership in Organizational Implementation and Sustainment in Service Agencies' (2017), and 'A systematic review of implementation frameworks of innovations in healthcare and resulting generic implementation framework' (2015). With more than 4,700 citations, her work influences healthcare policy and practice. Awards include the 2022 Health Services Research Association Australia and New Zealand Best Implementation Science Paper, 2021 Curtin Early Career Researcher Award (School of Population Health), joint 2021 Curtin Research and Engagement Award (Business, Society, and Communities), and a Translating Research into Practice Fellowship.
