Joanne Abdallah is the Director of the Speech-Language-Literacy Center at Bridgewater State University, situated in Burnell Hall, room 128-I, within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bridgewater State University and a Master of Science degree from Boston University. As a member of the clinical faculty, Abdallah supports the department's programs, which include an undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders designed to prepare students as speech-language assistants or for advanced graduate studies, and a graduate program in speech-language pathology featuring academic coursework and clinical practicum experiences required for national certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and state licensure. The Speech-Language-Literacy Center, under her direction, provides essential clinical training opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication disorders related to speech, language, hearing, and literacy in children and adults.
Abdallah has actively contributed to educational and scholarly activities at the university. In May 2009, she co-presented with Suzanne Miller and Sandra Ciocci at the CART Celebration on undergraduate students' perceived competencies in identifying critical elements of speech-language pathology treatment sessions, comparing outcomes from classroom-based versus community-based observations. She provided assistance with data collection and online survey implementation for a 2013 study published in Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups on undergraduate students' attitudes toward speech-language pathology clinical services. Additionally, in 2022, Abdallah served as a faculty reviewer for Volume VII of The Graduate Review, evaluating submissions in the Communication Sciences/Disorders discipline. Her long-standing service at Bridgewater State University, documented in public payroll records from 2010 through 2023, includes roles such as Director and Senior Instructor, reflecting her sustained commitment to clinical education and student preparation in the field.
