Dr. Joe Liang, also known as Jianqiang Liang, is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Human Services and Social Work within Griffith Health at Griffith University. He serves as the Program Director for the Bachelor of Social Work and is actively involved in teaching courses such as Evaluation, Effectiveness, Outcomes (3037HSV), Contemporary Issues in Ageing (3024HSV), and Group Facilitation (2027HSV). Liang earned his PhD from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014. His research focuses on social work with children, young people, families, and older people, encompassing international social work teaching and research, program evaluation including domestic violence and positive youth development projects, violence prevention, research methodology, program development, and technology-facilitated abuse against women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Liang has made significant contributions to the academic literature through peer-reviewed publications, including 'Coping Strategies and Suicidality: A Cross-Sectional Study From China' (2020), 'Critical Reflections of Western Teaching of Social Work to Students in China: What Can be Learned Both Ways?' (2019), 'Psychosocial Interventions Situated Within the Natural Environment for Disadvantaged Youth: A Scoping Review' (2021), 'Australian Social Work Academics Respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons for the Future' (2021), and 'Technology-Facilitated Abuse Against Women From Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds: A Scoping Review of the Literature' (2023). He is a member of the editorial team for the International Social Work journal and has participated in funded research, such as the 2023 Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) Grant awarded to a project on enhancing transdisciplinary graduate capabilities. Additionally, Liang contributes to university governance as a member of the Student Experience Sub-Committee and engages in public scholarship via The Conversation, discussing topics like maintaining hope post-COVID and the impacts of climate change on labour and migration. His work supports advancements in social work education, psychosocial interventions, and responses to contemporary social challenges.
