About Joël

Joël Brugger is Professor in the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University. He obtained his PhD at the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 1996 for research on the geochemistry and mineralogy of metamorphosed syn-genetic exhalative Mn deposits. In 2002 he joined the South Australian Museum and the University of Adelaide, where he established the Minerals, Microbes and Solutions research group focused on experimental studies of metal transport and deposition as well as mineral-microbe-fluid interactions in geological environments. In January 2014 he took up the chair in Synchrotron Geosciences at Monash University.

Brugger holds the position of Professor of Synchrotron Geosciences. His work centres on the application of synchrotron techniques to geoscience questions, including the behaviour of metals and minerals under varied geological conditions. He maintains an active research program with numerous peer-reviewed publications and ongoing projects in geochemistry and mineralogy.
