Johannes von Alvensleben, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus. He holds the positions of Director of Electrophysiology and Director of the Adult Congenital Arrhythmia Program at Children's Hospital Colorado. His clinical practice specializes in the care of children with heart rhythm disturbances and adults with congenital heart disease experiencing rhythm concerns, utilizing management approaches including medications, cardiac ablation, and cardiac device implantation. Board-certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Electrophysiology by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners since 2015, he is an active member of the Heart Rhythm Society and the Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society.
Dr. von Alvensleben received his BS from Pacific Lutheran University in 2002 and MD from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2007. He completed his internship in 2007 and pediatric residency in 2010 at Seattle Children's Hospital, followed by fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology in 2014 and Cardiac Electrophysiology in 2015 at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers Program. His research focuses on the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator in children and adults with congenital heart disease, as well as the effects of electrical dyssynchrony on heart function. Notable publications include 'Clinical Predictors of Recurrent Cavotricuspid Isthmus Flutter After Catheter Ablation in Patients With Dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries' (Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2025), 'Kerfed tip enhances catheter stability during accessory pathways ablation in children' (Heart Rhythm, 2025), 'Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators in Pediatrics and Congenital Heart Disease' (Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinics, 2023), and 'Syncope and Palpitations: A Review' (Pediatric Clinics of North America, 2020). He has been honored with multiple Patient-Family Experience Excellence in Patient Care Awards from Children's Hospital Colorado in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022, as well as the Pediatric Cardiology Fellows Teaching Award in 2016.
