John Gray, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at McGovern Medical School, part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, also known as UTHealth Houston. He holds the position of Neuroanesthesia Fellowship Program Director, guiding advanced training in neuroanesthesia for fellows. Additionally, Dr. Gray serves as the Director of Recruitment for the department, managing the recruitment and onboarding processes for faculty and staff positions within anesthesiology. His administrative roles demonstrate his dedication to building and sustaining a strong academic and clinical team in anesthesiology.
Dr. Gray completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, graduating in the Class of 2017. He then pursued and finished his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston from 2017 to 2021. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesiology and possesses a Texas State Medical License active from 2021 through 2027. Dr. Gray has earned recognition for teaching excellence through multiple Dean's Teaching Excellence Awards from McGovern Medical School. These include the 2024 Dean's Teaching Excellence Award announced in May 2024, the 2025 Dean's Teaching Excellence Award announced in May 2025, and the 2024-2025 Dean's Teaching Excellence Award announced in July 2025. He was also listed among the 2025 Anesthesiology Star Awardees in April 2025. Dr. Gray has been elected to the Faculty Senate multiple times, joining in 2023 and re-elected in 2024, contributing to faculty governance alongside colleagues such as Daniel An, DO, and Hayden Jefferies, DO. Furthermore, he is a member of the anesthesiology team at the Center for Interventional Psychiatry at McGovern Medical School. Through these appointments and honors, Dr. Gray impacts medical education, residency and fellowship training, and clinical care in anesthesiology at UTHealth Houston.
