Michelle Ge, MD, is an Associate Professor (non-tenured) in the Department of Anesthesiology at McGovern Medical School, part of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She serves as the director of resident acute pain education in the Division of Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine and is recognized as an Interventional Pain Fellowship-trained specialist. Dr. Ge earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University between 2005 and 2009, followed by her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in 2013. She completed her Anesthesiology residency at Washington University in St. Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and her fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at UTHealth Houston. Double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, she contributes to clinical practice at Memorial Hermann-TMC, a major Level I trauma center where thousands of regional and acute pain procedures are performed monthly. In 2024, she was promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and has been actively involved in the Faculty Senate, serving as an elected member in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Dr. Ge's research specializes in advanced techniques for acute pain management, including ultrasound-guided interventions and novel nerve blocks. Her publications, totaling seven on ResearchGate with 56 citations, include "Acute pain trajectories in elderly patients with fragility hip fractures" (2025), which analyzed pain patterns in 100 elderly hip fracture patients to advocate for personalized analgesia; "Ultrasound-guided percutaneous cryoneurolysis for management of acute sternal fracture pain" (2023), exploring handheld devices for acute pain; "Lumbosacral paraspinal interfascial plane blocks for pain control after feminizing genital gender affirmation surgery" (2021); "Continuous Erector Spinae Plane Block for Acute Pain Control in Chest Wall Reconstruction of Extensive Traumatic Degloving Injury" (2021); "Relief of Secondary Headaches with High Thoracic Erector Spinae Plane Block" (2020); "T4 Erector Spinae Plane Block Relieves Postdural Puncture Headache: A Case Report" (2019); and "Recent Technological Advancements in Regional Anesthesia" (2019), highlighting ultrasound and other innovations. She received the 2024 Dean's Teaching Excellence Award for her contributions to medical education.
