Joseph Hanna is a vascular surgery trainee registrar at the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, in Nedlands, Western Australia. His research focuses on surgical interventions for diabetic lower limb wounds and histopathological evaluations in cases of peripheral arterial disease leading to major amputations. Hanna has actively collaborated with academic researchers at Curtin University, notably Professor Shirley Jansen, the Lawrence-Brown Chair of Vascular Surgery in the School of Population Health, Faculty of Health Sciences.
In 2021, Hanna co-authored "Peroneus brevis flap in vascular surgical treatment of diabetic lower limb wounds" in the ANZ Journal of Surgery with Robert Ma and Shirley Jansen. In 2025, he contributed to "Histopathological analysis from proximal bone samples during major amputation for peripheral arterial disease" in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, co-authored with Henco Nel, Lucy Stopher, Laurens Manning, Shirley Jansen, and Thomas Gliddon. These publications reflect his contributions to clinical vascular research.
