Joshua Caballero, Pharm.D., BCPP, FCCP, serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, in 2001, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 1997. His postgraduate training encompasses a Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, completed in 2002, and a Pharmacotherapy Fellowship at The Ohio State University, Columbus, from 2002 to 2004. Caballero's academic career includes positions as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Pan American, Edinburg, and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin from 2004 to 2006. At Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, he progressed from Assistant Professor (2006-2012) to Associate Professor (2012-2017), serving as Vice-Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice from 2015 to 2016 and Director of the Neurocognitive Fellowship from 2013 to 2017. From 2017 to 2021, he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences at Larkin University, Miami, where he founded and directed the Institutional Review Board and directed the Pharmacotherapy Fellowship. He joined the University of Georgia in January 2022 as Limited Term Associate Professor and was promoted to full Associate Professor in January 2024.
Caballero's research focuses on digital health interventions for chronic disease management, medication adherence, psychiatric pharmacotherapy, and neurocognitive disorders, with an emphasis on community-engaged and interprofessional research. Notable publications include 'Psilocybin and side effects: A systematic review and meta-analysis' (JAMA Network Open, 2024), 'Relation of patient activation to medication adherence in low-literacy older adults with chronic health conditions' (Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, 2024), 'Development of a computerized intervention to improve health literacy in older Hispanics with type 2 diabetes using a pharmacist supervised comprehensive medication management' (PLoS One, 2022), and as editor of 'Get the Residency: ASHP’s Guide to Residency Interviews and Preparation, 3rd Edition' (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, 2023). He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacists. Caballero has earned major awards such as Phi Delta Chi UGA Faculty of the Year (2022, 2025), Golden Apple NSU Teacher of the Year (2008, 2012), Phi Delta Chi Distinguished Alumni National (2019), Phi Lambda Sigma Outstanding Advisor of the Year National (2017), and Philip C. and Ethel F. Ashby Distinguished Lecturer at OU College of Pharmacy (2025). He has been selected as UGA Faculty Hooder (2025) and Faculty Pinner (2024, 2025).
