Dr Julie Boulis (MAPS, MCEDP, MCCOUNP, MCOP, PGDipProfPsych, MEd, EdD) is a Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Leadership) in the School of Psychological Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences at Macquarie University. She earned her Doctor of Education from the University of Wollongong and her Professional Psychology degree from Macquarie University, and is a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. As the primary lecturer and convenor for the Master of Professional Psychology postgraduate program, she teaches key units including PSYP8901 Counselling and Professional Practice, PSYP8903 Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Related Techniques, PSYP8904 Populations and Presentations, and PSYU3336 Advanced Topics in Personality and Individual Differences. Her career at Macquarie University centers on teaching leadership and professional psychology education.
Dr Boulis specializes in curriculum development and innovations enhancing student engagement and connections as predictors of successful learning outcomes. She developed the Reflection-Focused Think-Pair-Share (RFTPS) active learning pedagogy, grounded in Connectivism, promoting student autonomy, social learning, reflexivity competencies, timely feedback, and counselling skills application. Supporting this is her Self-Reflection Observation Form (SROF), fostering collaboration, confidence, engagement, knowledge retention, and peer interaction. Her current research project, Enriching Pedagogy through Self Reflection in a Postgraduate Professional Psychology Unit, investigates SROF combined with a self-reflection AI coach to enhance student performance and prepare them for workplace challenges. She explores supporting tertiary-level knowledge translation and application in varied learning contexts. Dr Boulis serves on the Human Research Ethics Committee, Teaching & Leadership Community of Practice, School of Psychological Sciences Web Engagement Committee, Macquarie University Performance and Expertise Research Centre, Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Education, and Human Resource Low Risk Ethics Committee. Active projects include Interdisciplinary Practice in Allied Health: Development and Evaluation of an Interprofessional Education Workshop (ongoing from 2025) and the RFTPS project (ongoing from 2024).
