About Julie

Julie Gore is a Professor of Organizational Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London’s Department of Organizational Psychology, joining in September 2021. She founded and directs the Professional Doctorate in Evidence Based HRM and co-directs the Professional Doctorate in Occupational Psychology (Thesis Stage). Previously, she was Reader in Organizational Psychology and founding Director of the Centre for Qualitative Research at the University of Bath; Associate Professor in Organizational Behaviour and Director of the Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Surrey Business School; and Lecturer in Management at Oxford Brookes University. A Chartered Psychologist, Fellow of the British Psychological Society (FBPsS), and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Gore holds prestigious editorial positions as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and serves on the editorial boards of the British Journal of Management and Frontiers in Organizational Psychology. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Bath since 2023.

Gore’s research focuses on Naturalistic Decision Making (NDM), expertise capture, and cognitive task analysis in complex, uncertain environments, with applications across management, health, engineering, military, aviation, and finance. Her work explores how professionals make decisions, socio-cognitive competence, and behavioral agency in executive compensation. Key publications include “Cognitive Task Analysis: Eliciting Expert Cognition in Context” (Organizational Research Methods, 2024, with Brown and Power), “Theory-driven perspectives on Generative Artificial Intelligence in business and management” (British Journal of Management, 2024), “Advancing qualitative methods to explore team cognition in complex task environments” (Team Performance Management, 2025, forthcoming), and the co-edited “The Oxford Handbook of Expertise” (2018). As Principal Investigator on the UKRI-funded Discribe project examining cybersecurity decision-making, and Expert Fellow in the EPSRC SPRITE+ network, she contributes to national security research. Gore has served on expert panels for ESRC, CREST, and CRUISSE, and is a nominated member of the ESRC Peer Review College and Fellow of the British Academy of Management’s Peer Review College.
