Kirsty McTaggart is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Expressive Therapies and the Programme Leader for the MA Art Therapy at the University of Derby. She is a qualified Art Psychotherapist with extensive professional experience working with children and adults across education, the voluntary sector and mental health services. Her career in art therapy began with supporting individuals diagnosed with autism. She subsequently worked within the NHS in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and with Social Services, where she was responsible for developing a dedicated service for young people in the care system.
McTaggart has also worked and taught in South East Asia and Singapore, where she established Art Therapy services in a psychiatric hospital serving both adults and children on inpatient and outpatient bases. Prior to her career in therapy she trained and worked as a painter and holds a Fine Art degree from Glasgow School of Art. She currently teaches full time on the MA Art Therapy programme and the BA (Hons) Creative Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing course at the University of Derby, contributing to the training of future practitioners in therapeutic arts.
