Kate Chadwick is the Head of the Department of Radiation Therapy at the University of Otago, Wellington, within the Faculty of Health Professional Programmes, Health Sciences Division. She holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) and serves as a Lecturer in the department. The Department of Radiation Therapy provides New Zealand's national undergraduate and postgraduate education in radiation therapy, including the Bachelor of Radiation Therapy (BRT) programme delivered from the Wellington campus adjacent to Wellington Hospital, featuring clinical placements at cancer centres across the country.
In her leadership role, Kate Chadwick manages a team of senior lecturers, professional practice fellows, and clinical tutors from various regional services. She contributes to teaching radiation therapy planning concepts, associated with courses RADT216 Radiation Therapy Planning Concepts II and RADT315 Radiation Therapy Planning Concepts III. Her research interests include radiation therapy education and graduate preparedness. As corresponding author, she published 'Planning experience of new graduate radiation therapists in New Zealand' in the Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences in 2023, co-authored with Peter Larsen and Gay Dungey, assessing new graduates' confidence in treatment planning tasks. She presented this work at the ASMIRT 2023 conference in Sydney, Australia. Kate Chadwick also co-authored the 2019 ePoster 'Planning is better together in the cloud' with colleagues Paul Kane, Billie Mudie, and others. In 2019, following maternity leave, she led distance planning modules. In a 2024 University of Otago news article, she described the BRT as where technology meets caring.
