Dr. Kate Perry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Georgia Southern University, a position she has held since the fall of 2019. She also affiliates with the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program. Perry received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Missouri in 2019, her M.A. in International Relations from Western Illinois University in 2013, and her B.A. in Political Science from Monmouth College in 2008. Her academic interests center on gender and human security in international relations. She investigates the interplay between gender and global security issues, including human trafficking, foreign policy impacts, economic sanctions, peacekeeping, and conflict. Perry examines women as leaders and decision-makers, victims of crime, and those affected by policies often shaped by male leaders. Her research employs feminist political economy and security perspectives to address macroeconomic and political forces driving adverse outcomes for women in areas such as human trafficking, foreign policy, conflict, and sexual violence.
Key publications by Perry include "Women Leaders and Peacekeeping Contributions" co-authored with Courtney Burns (International Peacekeeping, 2025), "Economic Sanctions and Labour Rights Abuses in Target Countries" with Dursun Peksen (European Journal of Political Research, 2023), "Better for Whom? Sanction Type and the Gendered Consequences for Women" (International Relations, 2021), and the book chapter "Drones and Child Labor Trafficking: Using Modern Technology as a Tool Against Exploitation" (International Security Studies and Technology: Approaches, Assessments, and Frontiers, 2024). A forthcoming article, "Mothers of Conspiracy: Child Trafficking (Dis)information and the Politics of the Women of QAnon," co-authored with Christopher Patane and Tobias T. Gibson, appears in Politics & Gender (2026). Perry has presented her work at the Women and Gender Studies Annual Conference and the International Studies Association Annual Meeting. She teaches courses on human rights, gender, conflict, security, and political science research methods.
