Kate Savage, BVMS, BSc, is an Adjunct Lecturer in Intensive Industries at Murdoch University within the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences. She graduated from Murdoch University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc). She furthered her education with a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and completed a Master's degree in International Animal Welfare, Ethics and Law from the University of Edinburgh. In her academic role at Murdoch University, Dr. Savage delivers teaching on Intensive Industries, providing practical education to veterinary students on topics relevant to intensive animal production systems.
Prior to joining Portec in 2012, now operating as a branch of Apiam Animal Health Limited, Dr. Savage accumulated experience across various veterinary sectors, including mixed practice, government animal welfare regulation, small animal practice, and pig consultancy. As a Veterinary Consultant at Apiam Animal Health, she conducts routine and reactive farm visits to piggeries of diverse sizes and production types throughout Australia and overseas. Her work involves disease investigation, health management, APIQ auditing, Swine Dysentery eradication programs, and Cert III stockperson training. Dr. Savage has a keen interest in stockperson training, animal welfare, and reproductive performance in pigs. She frequently employs herd data programs like EliteHerd to troubleshoot production issues and address reproductive challenges, contributing to improved outcomes in porcine production medicine.
