Kathryn Elliott serves as Chair, Professor of the Practice of Entrepreneurship, and Director of Entrepreneurship in the David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship at High Point University. She joined the institution in August 2014 as Assistant Professor of the Practice of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship. Elliott earned a Master of Entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University with Beta Gamma Sigma honors and a 4.0 GPA, a B.S. in Human Resources Management from Excelsior College, and a B.B.A. in Business Management from Lamar University. Before academia, she served five years as a Radioman in the U.S. Navy. Her professional career spans over 30 years in entrepreneurship support, including 17 years at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce where she advanced to Vice President of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, Entrepreneur Connection Vice President at the Greensboro Partnership to foster high-growth businesses, and positions with the U.S. Small Business Development Center in Texas and South Carolina. She brings a vast network of business contacts valuable to students and has taught as an adjunct at the University of North Carolina Greensboro Bryan School of Business, Bennett College, Duke University Non-Profit Certificate Program, and Guilford Technical Community College.
At High Point University, Elliott teaches Entrepreneurial Creativity and Feasibility, Family Business Management, Business Modeling, Planning, Strategy, and Growth, and Social Entrepreneurship. As Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, she provides leadership to develop an inclusive center, cultivates student entrepreneurs across disciplines, encourages faculty involvement, recruits mentors, promotes opportunities, and engages in community outreach. She co-advises the Entrepreneurs’ Club, supporting students aspiring to launch ventures, and has contributed to the university’s Curriculum Committee and Service Learning efforts. Her extensive community service includes serving on the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship Board of Directors, PTP NEXT Advisory Board, City of Greensboro Minority/Women Business Enterprise Program Advisory Council, Guilford Technical Community College Small Business Center Advisory Council, and judging annually for the UNCG Campus Entrepreneur Business competition. Honors include Sam Walton Fellow with EnActUs (formerly Students in Free Enterprise), graduate of Leadership Greensboro, and completion of the Center for Creative Leadership Development Program.
