Professor Kathryn Pavlovich is Professor of Strategic Management in the Waikato Management School at the University of Waikato. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Auckland, a Master of Management Studies (MMS), and a PhD in strategic management from the University of Waikato. After completing her PhD around 2000, she joined the Waikato Management School as a lecturer, progressing to Associate Professor and then full Professor. She delivered her Inaugural Professorial Lecture in 2015, advocating for businesses to prioritize collaborative practices beyond mere profit-making to transform management paradigms. Pavlovich has held leadership positions, including Co-Chairperson of the Department of Strategy and Human Resource Management. In 2022, she received the Postgraduate Supervision Excellence Award from the Waikato Management School for her reflective and comprehensive approach to supervising postgraduate students, particularly PhD candidates exploring topics aligned with her research.
Her research focuses on strategic management, entrepreneurship, sustainability, leader development, spirituality in management, entrepreneurial resilience, empathy and connectedness in organizations, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable practices in small and medium-sized enterprises. Key publications include 'Entrepreneurial resilience and venture failure: A narrative approach' (Corner, Pavlovich, and Wu, 2017, International Small Business Journal), 'Failed, not finished: A narrative approach to understanding venture failure stigmatization' (Singh, Corner, and Pavlovich, 2015, Journal of Business Venturing), 'Sustainability-Related Identities and the Institutional Environment: The Case of New Zealand Owner-Managers of Small- and Medium-Sized Hospitality Businesses' (Kiefhaber, Behrens, and Pavlovich, 2020), 'Yoga and Subjective Well-Being at Work' (Pavlovich, 2019), and 'Organising Food Systems Through Ecologies of Care' (Pavlovich, 2024, Journal of Business Ethics). With 55 publications and over 3,400 citations on ResearchGate, her work significantly impacts the fields of conscious enterprise, shared value creation, and network relationships in tourism and hospitality. Pavlovich contributes editorially, having served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion, and participates in academic committees and showcase symposia.
