Katrien De Schepper serves as a lector and contributor at the Industrial Design Center (IDC) within HOWEST University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen (TU)), in the Architecture and Design faculty through the Industrial Product Design program. The center, located at Marksesteenweg 58 in Kortrijk, Belgium, functions as Howest's hub for collaboration between professionals, researchers, and students in design innovation. Students experiment with wood, metal, textile processing, 3D printing, laser cutting, water jet cutting, thermoforming, welding, and ceramics in design studios and prototyping workshops. Her educational background includes Syntra West.
De Schepper holds the role of project manager for the D4E1-LAB in the Design for (every)one project at Howest, which emphasizes practice-oriented inclusive design within the University College West Flanders. Examples of outputs include breihulp 1.3, kookhulp 1.5, stoelklem 1.5, leeshulp 1.7, opraaphulp 1.6, harnaskledij 1.7, strandmobiel 1.5, and jashulp 2.5. She is listed in the team for Design for Everyone at the Industrial Design Center. In the Makerhealth project, aimed at zorg organizations and product design bureaus, her email is provided for inquiries. In the ODIN project, the guidance was generally well received, with special appreciation for the expertise of Katrien de Schepper from Howest. She participated in the presentation "Second-degree frugal innovation in the Belgian healthcare system" at the RSD Symposium, credited with Marieke Maertens, Katrien De Schepper, Lieven De Couvreur from Howest, and others. For the 2018 Reciprocity Design Liège edition, De Couvreur was assisted by Katrien De Schepper in workshops from March to June at Howest, leading to the Fragilitas exhibition. As researchers at Howest, she and Nils Ferlin witnessed the opening of Design Month Graz in May 2023. She was involved in organizing the Woeshcraft expo on June 11 at IDC, Howest Kortrijk. Additionally, she contributed to grassroots innovation initiatives and STEAM education events like the Online Wetenschapsacademie Blankenberge.
