Olivier Demortier serves as a Lector in Industrial Design at Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen (TU), known as Howest University of Applied Sciences, in the Architecture and Design faculty. He earned his Master’s degree in Industrial Design from Howest between 1996 and 2001. With prior professional experience as a designer at Velleman and Modular, Demortier, born in 1978, operates as a full-time lecturer (1 VTE equivalent), contributing across teaching, research, and service in the Bachelor of Industrial Product Design program.
In his academic role, Demortier oversees the third-year cohort (3IPO), managing projects and coordinating internships, including placements at Barco such as the Livedots project in 2014. He facilitates international student exchanges and teaches courses like Chaos en Orde, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), Moderne Productie (Modern Production), and Capita Selecta, focusing on design processes, technology, project management, and innovation. He participates in professional development, quality assurance, and internationalization efforts. Demortier co-authored the 2025 paper 'Enhancing the Classic Creative Process with Generative Artificial Intelligence,' analyzing AI integration into the Double Diamond model. He co-led the 'Shaping Matter (with AI)' workshop at the Howest Industrial Design Center in June 2024 and presented at the International Summit on Design Thinking in Business and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, he leads Lecor Industrial Product Design and Toope.net, linking academia with industry practice.
