Professor Keith Hampson is the John Curtin Distinguished Professor in the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University and Chief Executive Officer of the Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc), headquartered there. He joined Curtin in 2013 to lead the expansion of SBEnrc, following his role as CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation (CRC ci) from 2001 to 2009, which involved 28 partners and A$16 million government funding. Previously, he served as CSIRO Associate Professor of Construction Management at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) from 1997 to 2000, Senior Lecturer in Construction Management and Property at QUT from 1989 to 1996, and held earlier industry and government positions. Hampson's academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) from QUT (1981), Master of Business Administration from QUT (1990), and PhD in Construction Engineering and Management from Stanford University (1994). Over 40 years, he has led multidisciplinary teams in planning, design, construction, and maintenance, securing approximately A$70 million in R&D funding.
Hampson's research focuses on construction innovation, sustainable built environments, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and research translation into practice. He has developed tools like the 'BIM Value' online decision-support system and safety training programs used by over 16,000 workers, influencing industry standards and policy. Key publications include the edited books 'Delivering Value with BIM: A Whole-of-life Approach' (2016), 'Integrating Information in Built Environments' (2018), and 'Transforming the Built Environment through Construction Innovation' (2009). He is President of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) since 2019, having previously been Vice-President. Awards and honors include Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (FTSE), Fellow of Institution of Engineers Australia (FIEAust), Fellow of Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD), Fellow of Australian Institute of Management (FAIM), Curtin University Research Excellence Award for Research Impact and Engagement (2016), Ashley Goldsworthy Award (2016), and visiting professorships at RMIT University (2022-), QUT (2013-2020), Griffith University (2017-), and Chalmers University (2018-2022).
