Dr. Kelly Valentin is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Curtin Medical School within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University. She serves as the Professionalism and Leadership Domain Co-Lead at Curtin Medical School. Additionally, Dr. Valentin holds the position of Associate Professor and National Head of the Personal and Professional Development (PPD) Domain at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame Australia. Dr. Valentin's research specializations encompass medical student wellbeing, the impact of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) on online learning experiences through the lens of Self-Determination Theory, personal and professional development curricula, professional identity formation, emotional intelligence, lifelong learning, and inclusive practices in medical education. Her key publications include 'Shaping minds and hearts in medical education: Embedding and implementing a personal and professional development curriculum' published in Medical Teacher in 2024, co-authored with Lorna Davin, Tim Leahy, and Linda Berlach. This work explores PPD as a critical domain for person-centered care, drawing on curriculum development models and a case study from postgraduate medical students in Australia to propose next steps for medical schools. Another significant publication is 'It doesn't need to be so stressful!: Exploring Medical Students with ADHD Online Learning Experiences through a Self-Determination Theory,' co-authored with Anett Nyaradi and published in 2024, which addresses challenges faced by medical students with ADHD in online higher education settings.
