Kendall Cortelyou, Ph.D., is Professor and Director of the School of Global Health Management and Informatics in the College of Community Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida. An alumna of the school, she holds a master’s degree in health services administration and a Ph.D. from the Doctoral Program in Public Affairs, Health Services Management and Research Track, both from UCF. Dr. Cortelyou teaches in the graduate and undergraduate health services administration programs and the online Professional Science Master’s program in Health Care Informatics. Her research interests include health care workforce issues, consumer informatics, health care informatics, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Additional foci encompass substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder, and leveraging health information technology to improve patient engagement and health literacy.
Dr. Cortelyou collaborates extensively with community partners on workforce development and public health initiatives. She serves as Director of Data, Analytics, and Strategy for Project Opioid, contributing to the creation of DRUGTrac, an AI-powered dashboard that monitors drug threats to prevent overdoses. Her publications include “Operationalizing person-centered care in residential substance use disorder treatment” (2023), “Key person-centered care domains for residential substance use disorder treatment facilities: former clients’ perspectives” (2023), “Privacy Officers: Who They are and Where They Work” (2021), “Navigating the Digital Divide: Barriers to Telehealth in Rural Areas” (2020), and “Mitigating Error Vulnerability at the Transition of Care Through the Use of Health IT Applications” (2012). Recognized for her contributions, she received the College of Community Innovation and Education Outstanding Employee Award (2023-24), promotion to Professor (2024), UCF Founders’ Day Honoree designation (2022), and the Golden Brick Award for collaboration with Epic Systems. Dr. Cortelyou has served on the UCF Graduate Council and as Co-Chair of the Population Health Council.
