Dr. Kenneth L. Shemroske serves as Professor of Computer Information Systems in the Romain College of Business at the University of Southern Indiana. He earned his PhD in Management Information Systems from the University of Houston's C.T. Bauer College of Business in May 2011. His doctoral dissertation, titled 'The Ethical Use of IT: A Study of Two Models for Explaining Online File Sharing Behavior,' examined peer-to-peer technology and illegal downloading through the lenses of the Hunt-Vitell General Theory of Ethics and the Theory of Planned Behavior, proposing a synthesized model to address digital piracy in organizational and educational contexts.
Shemroske's research specializations encompass information systems ethics, cybersecurity, online community participation, security perceptions, and innovations in business education pedagogy. Notable publications include 'Designing and Integrating an Introductory Information Systems Course into Business Core Curriculum: Case Roadmap and Lessons' (2024, Journal of Information Systems Education, co-authored with Dinko Bačić), which outlines stakeholder engagement, challenges, and design principles for an IIS course to bolster IS enrollment and skills; 'Generative Artificial Intelligence in Applied Business Education' (2024, Journal of Applied Business and Economics, co-authored with Srishti Srivastava); 'Altering Security Perceptions Through the Use of Geo-Authentication' (2015); 'Disrupting Faculty Service: Using Technology to Increase Academic Service Productivity' (2014); 'Mechanisms for Understanding Participation in Online File Sharing' (2015, co-authored with Leiser Silva); and contributions to the Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges (2013). He has presented on implementing a Security Operations Center at a midwest university (AMCIS 2017) and featured in PBS Regional Voices on cybersecurity (2017). At USI, Shemroske advises business case teams, contributes to the Cyber Security Certificate program, instructs AI in Manufacturing through Outreach and Engagement, participates in faculty senate, and engages in IT Alliance initiatives. In May 2025, he was among faculty promoted by the USI Board of Trustees.
